Calgary Courts Centre

The Calgary Courts Centre is a tremendous addition to downtown Calgary. Opened in fall 2007, the $340-million Calgary Courts Centre was designed to meet LEED Silver standards and featured:
  • 1 million square feet of modern architectural design from world-renowned designer Carlos Ott,
  • 74 courtrooms and 24-stories, making it the largest court facility in Canada, and
  • Space to house the Provincial Court and Queen's Bench courtrooms, along with other civil and legal functions in one facility - a good example of government's focus on using space wisely.

Phase two of the Calgary Courts Centre project included the development of:

  • A four-level, 706-stall underground parkade which opened to the public in May 2010; and
  • A landscaped urban park which opened to the public in July 2011.

The park reflects Alberta's natural heritage by showcasing landforms of Alberta's six natural regions. Sustainable processes have been integrated into the park such as rainwater harvesting, native and drought-tolerant plant material, and low-flow drip irrigation systems.
